Corallium elatius
Satsuma - Momo - Cerasuolo
Depending on the qualities we have from deep pink to bright red
From Japan to the Philippines
The color of Japanese corals is not compact, so it's common to find branches whose color starts from the basic red to get to white. Another peculiarity, present in all Japanese corals, is the fact that the whole head, from the base to the smallest peripheral branch, is crossed by a white vein (which we call "soul"). This may seem like a defect, but in reality it is a virtue as it helps to recognize the authenticity and origin of a coral.
The Japanese tufts mostly have the branches arranged in a fan. Their height, on average, is 30/40 cm, the width is mostly equal to the height. The weight of a head is proportional to its size. On average, it is around 2/3 kg. It is rare to find some exceptional branches of 70/80 cm in height.polyps, leaving only the terminal part everted; inside the cenosarch there is a large number of calcareous spicules which are a valid aid in supporting the colony with a gelatinous consistency.
